Mental Health Skills for Managers

 

Overview

To create mentally healthy workplaces, it’s vital to build supportive relationships between managers and team members. Delivered by workplace mental health experts, this four-hour training promotes a healthy performance culture, giving you the skills and confidence to have conversations about mental health and encourage people to seek support.   

Workshop objectives

Through an interactive instructor-led live session (zoom or in person), you will learn how to spot the signs of poor mental health in your team, signpost to appropriate tools and resources and become a self-care role model.

Who should attend?

Your people managers.

The purpose of this course is to build on the people skills you have as managers to have meaningful and effective conversations with your people about mental health and wellbeing so they can thrive at work.
 
By the end of the course, you will be able to:

1) Describe mental health and the impact of stress on employees in the workplace

2) Identify if a team member may be experiencing poor mental health

3) Confidently have open conversations about mental health at work

4) Respond empathetically to challenging situations related to mental health in the workplace

5) Appropriately signpost your team members to available support

6) Describe what support and guidance is available for yourself and your employees and how to access it.

Course format

🔴 This is a half-day, 4-hour course delivered either in person or via online video conferencing

🔴 Learning takes place through a mix of presentations, group discussions and workshop activities

🔴 We limit numbers to 25 people per course so that the instructor can keep people safe and supported while they learn

-The Mental Health spectrum

-Stress in the workplace

-Spotting the signs of poor mental health

-Have an impactful conversation using the mental health conversation cycle

-Understand the types of questions to ask and the importance of active listening

-How to respond to challenging situations

-Tools and resourses to take away and share on signposting

-Understanding the importance of self-care

Finishing the session with a ‘Commitment to Change’.
