What’s been happening?
Mental Health Awareness Week isn’t just for May…
Mental Health UK reports that over 91% of adults experienced high pressure and stress at some point over the last year. This has been taken from The Burnout Report 2025 with 1 in 5 workers needing to take time off work due to poor mental health caused by that stress and pressure.

The report states the following workplace factors that have contributed to burnout:
- Fear of redundancy/Job security
- Working unpaid overtime
- Working from a fixed location
- Increased workload
- Feeling isolated at work
Plus factors outside of the workplace include:
- Care responsibilities
- Parental responsibilities
- Money worries
- Experiencing poor physical health
- Problems in personal relationships
What can employers do to take action and support their employees:
- Take a look at the company culture and policy. Do you have a plan for the health and wellbeing of your team? Does this include physical and mental health? Is it lived or, dare I say it, a ‘tick box’ exercise?
- Do you have wellbeing advocates within the business who not only promote a healthy approach to work but they also live it (i.e. wellbeing boundaries, taking lunch breaks, taking time off work for annual leave and also not working when they’re unwell)
- Do your people leaders feel confident in having conversations about flexible working and the reasonable adjustments that can be provided?
- Are you implementing mental health awareness training in the workplace? If so, you know I can help you with that!
Training enables your team and people managers to be aware of signs of poor mental health, but more importantly, the confidence to have a productive and supportive conversation, therefore addressing the issues before they escalate.
Signposting is also important, if you have limited services within your organisation, please take a look at the mental health directory: www.hubofhope.co.uk which is an app and can be accessed by the web to find supports in your local area.
